OUR APPROACH

Some of the key therapy approaches we adopt are Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).

ACT is an empirically-based psychological intervention that uses acceptance and mindfulness strategies mixed in different ways with commitment and behaviour-change strategies, to increase psychological flexibility. CBT is a psychotherapeutic approach which addresses dysfunctional emotions, maladaptive behaviours and cognitive processes, and contents through a number of goal-oriented, explicit systematic procedures.

THE TEAM

R + H Counselling is currently lead by experienced counsellor- Heather Hayman

Heather has studied counselling and family therapy over a number of years through The Australian Institute of Family Counselling. As well as her Advanced Diploma, Heather has also done a course in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy which she loves to incorporate into her work. Heather also brings a wealth of other experience to her counselling practice through 38 years of work in the medical profession as a nurse and midwife.

Heather is a member of the Australian Christian Counsellors Association [ACCA].

Heather has been married for 38 years and has four adult children and 10 grandchildren. She often wishes she had done her counselling course when she was much younger as she believes the things she knows now would have really helped in the early days of marriage and parenting.
